Defenders of Mariupol without artillery and aircraft destroyed 2,500 russians.

The main thing is the situation at Azovstal, as well as the losses among the civilian population and the russian army.

On Sunday, May 8, a briefing of the defenders of Mariupol took place. Deputy Commander of the Azov Regiment Sviatoslav Kalyna Palamar and Intelligence Officer Ilya Samoilenko gave a briefing at the Azovstal plant in Mariupol, which continues to be defended by Ukrainian fighters. Heavy fighting continues between Ukrainian fighters and occupiers. Defenders spoke about the situation at Azovstal, Hromadske reports, which broadcasts a briefing.

On the evacuation of civilians

Svyatoslav Palamar said that the intense shelling of Azovstal continues. In one night alone, there were 25 sorties, including three strategic bombers. Tanks, mortars, snipers are working, infantry is trying to storm. Civilians have been evacuated over the past three days. He noted that it is currently impossible to say whether all civilians were evacuated, as there is no special equipment to dismantle the debris. He also said that there were many civilian and military casualties at the plant.

“Two days ago, three of our servicemen were killed: one of them from an ATGM hitting a car that was supposed to pick up civilians, and two others – while dropping bombs from a drone. Six were also injured. This is the price of evacuating civilians from the plant”, – said Sviatoslav Palamar.

Ilya Samoilenko did not say how many people were killed in the military so as not to endanger his unit.

About the blockade of Mariupol

“The truth is that we are unique. Nobody expected us to stand still for so long … I didn’t expect either. We thought that the russian federation would overcome everyone, but the Armed Forces resisted. Many people say that we are heroes. Many call us heroes … We do our job. Heroism comes when planning and organization fail. Many people believe that we are living heroes. Mostly so it is. When the siege of the city began, we decided to stand here anyway and defend it. We had an order to defend Mariupol. We did not have an order to lift the defense”, Samoilenko said.

According to him, the situation that has developed during the 2.5-month blockade of Mariupol is one that has never been seen before in history.

“This has never happened before in history, with so many casualties among military enemies and significant losses among the civilian population. What breaks my heart the most is the evacuation of small groups. Politicians note small victories – the evacuation of dozens and hundreds of people, while more than 25,000 people were killed by the russian army,” said the officer.

According to Ilya Samoilenko, Ukrainian fighters killed 2,500 russian servicemen in Mariupol and wounded another 5,000 occupiers, more than 15% of the russian army’s military losses.

“We also destroyed more than 60 tanks and damaged another 30 – that’s 10% of their losses. They also destroyed 10% of the occupiers’ artillery systems”, Samoilenko said.

He said that there were days when more than 150 air bombs were dropped on Mariupol.

Ilya Samoilenko also said that russian troops broke into the territory of Azovstal in the blockade of Mariupol on May 4. Heavy fighting continues between Ukrainian fighters and occupiers.

At that time, Ukraine and russia, with the support of the United Nations, agreed to evacuate civilians hiding in the plant’s bomb shelters. The evacuation began on May 1, and on May 7, Ukrainian authorities announced that all women, children, and the elderly had been evacuated.

President Volodymyr Zelensky called the actions of the russians nazism and stood up for Azov, and also announced preparations for the evacuation of the wounded and medics from Azovstal.

Defenders of Mariupol have repeatedly appealed to the Ukrainian authorities and the world community, emphasizing that the fighters have problems with food, water, medicine, ammunition.

Activists and a number of non-governmental organizations have petitioned the United Nations and world leaders to rescue Ukrainian soldiers and civilians from the Azovstal plant using the extradition procedure.
