American analysts believe that the russians will try to attack Lysychansk in the coming weeks.
Russian occupation troops are advancing to Lysychansk from the south. Thus, they did not need to force the Seversky Donets to get closer to the city. This is stated in the analytical report of the American Institute for War Studies (ISW).
“Russian troops are advancing to Lysychansk from the south, instead of crossing the river from the side of Severodonetsk, threatening the Ukrainian defense in the area,” – the ISW report said.
American analysts believe that the russians will try to attack Lysychansk in the coming weeks, but they are likely to face further protracted battles with Ukrainian forces, similar to those in Mariupol and Severodonetsk.
But as the russians move slowly in the Luhansk region, their operations along the Izyum-Slavyansk axis, ISW analysts write, are increasingly stalling as russian forces give priority to operations around Severodonetsk.
They made unsuccessful ground attacks on Bogorodskoye and Dolyna (north of Slovyansk) and tried unsuccessfully to conduct offensive operations in the area of the Lyman.
