The blaze engulfed the main building of the temple
In the Donetsk region, due to russian shelling, a large-scale fire engulfed the All Saints Hermitage of the Holy Dormition Svyatogorsk Lavra. This was reported by the UOC press center.
“On June 4, 2022, as a result of hostilities, a large-scale fire broke out on the territory of the All Saints Hermitage of the Holy Dormition Svyatogorsk Lavra,” – the statement said.
The shelling engulfed the main building of the temple, which was consecrated in 1912. There is no information about the dead and injured at the moment.
“The occupiers know exactly which object is being shelled. They know that there are no military targets on the territory of the Svyatogorsk Lavra. It is known that there are about 300 lay people fleeing hostilities, including 60 children. But still the Russian army is shelling the laurel, like the whole Donbas. Like any other territory and any other object of Ukraine that can be reached. They don’t care what to turn into ruins,” – Zelensky said.
President Volodymyr Zelensky has already called on the United Nations and UNESCO to expel russia from its ranks as a terrorist state that destroys historical monuments and social infrastructure in Ukraine.
This is not the first shelling of the Holy Dormition Svyatogorsk Lavra, which is a refuge for refugees from russian armed aggression. On May 4, four people were injured in an attack on the monastery.
On May 30, two monks, a nun, were killed in the shelling. Three more monks were wounded.
